The story start when a woodcutter went to forest to cut some woods and met this yogi who was sitting under the tress in deep meditation.
After few days, this yogi notice all his toils and hardship and asked, “You are working very hard every day, you must have built a lot of wealth!”
After listening this, the woodcutter broke into a bleak smile and replied, “Not at all! After toiling for the entire day, I earn a paltry sum of money that does not even cover my expenses.”
The Yogi exclaimed, “Oh! Then why don’t you go little farther into the jungle till sandalwood trees? Don’t you know sandalwood sell at a much higher price?”
Initially in two mind whether to believe it or not, he decided to go little ahead in jungle and find out a place surrounded by sandalwood trees.
After selling sandalwood, his days of hardship come to an end. The months passes and woodcutter met this yogi again.
Now again this yogi asked him the same thing, “Are you still selling sandalwood? Why don’t you go a little farther inside the jungle to the silver mines?”
The woodcutter followed his advice and starts mining for silver.
Again after few months later, yogi advised woodcutter to go for the gold mine and subsequently to the diamond mine.
Following yogi’s advice, the erstwhile woodcutter had now become a rich diamond merchant. Decades passed as he blossomed fine into his 60s. Then one day he decided to meet this yogi for the last time to say THANKS.
The moment they met, yogi asked him, “Are you still selling diamonds? Why don’t you go a little farther?”
This time, the rich businessman got rather irked and said, “Please stop pushing me any farther. Now that I have become a diamond merchant, what else do I have to look forward to?”
The yogi smiled and wait for few moments, then replied, “It’s me that you should come to.”
He continued, “Did it ever strike to you that despite having the knowledge about the diamond mines how is a person sitting under this tree so contended? He must have attained something more valuable than the diamonds.”
After hearing yogi, he fall into pieces and surprised why he didn’t think like that before.
He fell down the Yogi’s feet and urged, “I have been ignorant. But, now I want to know what wealth you possess that makes all the riches of this world fall short in front of it.”
After taking few deep breaths, yogi replied, “It’s Meditation.”
The diamond merchant was left baffled. “But I don’t even know how to meditate.”
The Yogi explained, now when you have accumulated a lot of worldly riches. It’s time to move inwards. Just sit down and see what is happening inside you is MEDITATION.
Do not hold on to any feelings. Just see. Even if you find the Almighty, do not hold. Keep watching till all the feelings, opinions, thoughts become calm. Never try to stop any feeling or thought forcibly by your own.
When everything comes to stillness you will attain Samadhi – where there will be only nothingness which ignites consciousness.
All you need for this is patience. No matter how long it takes, you should be consistent in your practices.
